The screenwriting seminar focuses on the art and craft of motion picture, television, and adaptive digital/multimedia screenwriting. Our course explores the genesis of screenwriting, the integral components of concept, genre, character, structure, dialogue, scene/sequencing, culminating in the preparation of script and treatments for a variety of screen formats. The course is comprised of informal lectures, screenings, writing assignments, and a screenwriting workshop. Our expressed goal is to develop and finish several short film screenplays, a television sitcom sequence, culminating in an original narrative (approx. 15 - 20pp.) screenplay. We'll explore our love of movies and television, and ideally via screenwriting practice arrive at a fuller understanding of Hollywood, independent, and international filmmaking, plus the evolving poetics triggered by streaming and binge-viewing (Netflix/YouTube/HBO et al.) creation and consumption.
