Description:
This advanced undergraduate studio introduces generative design as a way of making form through instructions: procedures, rules, scripts, and algorithms that produce visual outcomes. Working across analog and digital methods, students will build and test systems ranging from drawing machines and rule-based mark-making to data-driven pattern generation and computational composition. Through iterative studio experiments, students will learn to “vibe-code” by adapting existing codebases, modifying parameters, and authoring new algorithms that translate intent into repeatable processes. The course culminates in a final project that inverts the digital back into the physical, using CNC fabrication to create custom wood blocks for printed editions—where each print becomes both artifact and proof of a generative system.
