Description:

Advanced Design Studios support the complex and expanding role of today's Graphic Designer. These studios provide deep exploration within a specific arena to help students further define their own methodologies. Courses are proposed by faculty and cover 2D, 3D, and 4D categories. Studio options may vary from semester to semester. This course will focus on the fundamentals of hand-lettering. Students will learn the anatomy of letterforms and how the tool influences the shape of the letter. Emphasis will be placed on learning formal construction of block, script, and roman letters. After gaining a firm grasp of the foundations, students will experiment with expressive, diverse, and illustrative styles. By the end of the course, students will be able to produce high quality hand-drawn letterforms and be able to critically discuss their design decisions.
