Description:
This course is designed to acquaint students with the skills and knowledge necessary to transition from college into a professional practice. Projects include the design of a portfolio website, identity system and marketing materials, and writing a resume, cover letter and professional profile. Topics covered include an overview of the design profession and areas of specialization to expose students to career opportunities suited to their interests and skills. Also covered are using social media for professional networking and job search, writing proposals and managing projects, and the interview process. The class will be a combination of lectures, project assignments and visits to Bay Area studios will be scheduled to provide students with a close up view of the business of design. Students are encouraged to think of their career in a broad sense, and to consider how they want to make their mark on the world.
