Description:

This team-taught course offers a journey through the captivating history of art, architecture, and design, from prehistory to the 18th century, featuring diverse cultures from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. You will travel through time and across continents, exploring how artists have always been time travelers, drawing on traditions past and imagining the future anew. You'll sharpen your reading, writing, and presentation skills while diving into engaging coursework that trains you to identify and articulate critical perspectives on art, architecture, and design. By studying objects across different media, you'll learn to connect the act of making to the rich cultural and historical stories behind them. Throughout the course, you'll think through ways to apply what you learn to your own studio projects and view yourself as an active contributor to the vibrant tapestry of visual culture.
