Description:
This class will examine some of the basic, core Horror/Monster films of the first two-thirds of the 20th century. These films include Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Daughter of Dracula, Cat People and two early zombie movies. We then consider two Horror/Sci-fi crossovers before concluding with The Exorcist and Carrie. Various analytical tools will be applied to these films as we investigate issues of race, class, and especially gender considering the Horror genre as the most 'gender bent' of all narrative constructs.
