Description:
This class will explore all aspects of an artwork's lifetime, from the moment of its technical creation in the artist's studio to its public presentation and display in the gallery or museum. It will also examine the logic behind collecting art, the impact of the market on an artwork’s value, and finally, the issues related to documentation, conservation, and decay. Each theoretical lesson will be complemented by a specific field trip to visit the spaces and meet the key figures of this narrative: an artist in their studio, an independent, profit-oriented gallery owner, a collector in their home, and various professionals such as the curator, archivist, and conservator.
