Description:

This class is intended to bridge the gap between figure drawing and its application in narrative art and illustration. Students primarily work from figure models in class, concentrating on gesture as well as the structure of the head and face. Students will also sometimes use themselves and others in the class as models learning to identify and accentuate that which make an individual unique and how to translate these observations to illustrative work. Students will then work toward incorporation of the figure into environments. Students also explore the use of photographic reference, gathering reference materials, directing models, and the use of lighting to create mood and narrative flow. Finally, students will expand work done in class into assignments that incorporate the figure into a context, to create a narrative, and to effectively communicate ideas to viewers. Class is suggested for students interested in print book and comic and realistic illustration, representational narrative art, animation, film and game previsualization etc.
