Students can expect to create many paintings, ranging from the quickly sketch to the lengthy development of a fully resolved study. Formal skills such as setting up a palette, color mixing, expressive brushwork, etc. will be covered. Risk taking will be encouraged and the process of seeing/painting will be equal to, if not more important than the final product. The emphasis will be placed on developing a rich visual vocabulary, enabling the student to express their creative vision with more confidence and clarity. One or two field trips will be planned. Mandatory for Illustration majors, but open to all students.
