Description:
This course covers children's picture book production from idea to publication. It will enable the student to understand the entire process of creating a children's picture book and book proposal. Emphasis will be on developing skills in story foundation and development, visual rhythm and character development, as well as discuss and study the production and business practices of both the freelance illustrator and the publishing industry. Class will consist of writing/adapting a story, mapping the story out with extensive preliminary sketches, and creating 4 finished illustrations. By the end of the semester the student will have a completed dummy ready to present to a publisher.
