Description:
In Design Communication 2, students will build their ability to rapidly visualize and sketch 3D concepts, both by hand and digitally. This course, typically taken in the first year of the ID program (sophomore year), focuses on developing the skill of rapid sketching to encourage quick ideation and early-stage concept exploration. Students will be introduced to digital sketching tools like Procreate to support learning through quick, iterative drawing.
Instructors will provide weekly demonstrations on materials, techniques, and rapid visualization strategies, followed by assignments designed to develop each student’s individual skill set. This class helps students practice rapid visualization skills, ideation thinking sketches, form sketches from multiple views, and digital sketching with light shading for depth. Skills include 2D form development, visual fluency, and contour line work, warming up to 3D modeling in Fusion 360. Software and tools include any digital sketching tools like Procreate or similar, and beginning 2D line work in Fusion 360.
