Description:
Rational Fashion: Shoes is an investigation into historic and current trends in shoe design and fabrication processes. Students will use this investigation to define and develop their own unique designs in footwear.This class will introduce students to the methodologies of shoe design. Arranged around multiple scaling studio projects, students will design unique footwear using both accepted and experimental methodologies....wooden lasts, vacuum forming, hacking existing models, 3D printing, color and material investigation, and eventually creating prototypes for their own shoe designs.This class will have a hands on making focus from design development to production. It will introduce traditional and contemporary prototyping practices, global production methods, and 2D/digital communication of intended designs. This semester long intensive in shoe design will appeal to students interested in both the design and fabrication of these complex functional objects.Class will be split between two locationsTuesdays, 12 to 3 pm, Industrial Design Studio, S18Thursdays, 12 - 3 pm, Fashion Studio 120
