Description:
Professional Practice is designed to introduce students to the skills and knowledge necessary to transition into professional practice and expose them to career opportunities suited to their interests and skills. Special attention is placed on designing and creating an effective portfolio, preparation and effective self promotion, interview skills, and building their professional network.
By focusing on their professional practice, students develop greater confidence in their work, are better equipped to leverage their skills & interests, and increase their ability to present their work in forums, exhibits, at Junior Review, and to prospective employers.
Junior Review also ensures the student has demonstrated growth in the concepts and craft of interaction design (core interaction principles, human-centered design practices) and determines if the student has the appropriate understanding and skillset to proceed successfully to their senior year.
Topics include: an overview of the design profession and areas of specialization, social media for professional networking and job search, resume and cover letter writing, and the interview process as students craft portfolios in preparation for entering the design practice.
The course will include industry guest speakers and possible field trips to professional design studios.
