Adjunct I Professor, Graduate Interaction Design Program
Description:
Students will be introduced to a variety of tools, theories and techniques that will facilitate the crafting of designed interactions which take place across a wide spectrum of both screen and non-screen based canvases, including mobile applications, web sites, kiosks, in-store, non-screen based services and at any other point where interactions are instantiated. This course will explore the fundamental principles, materials and processes that underlie the interactions between people, as mediated through technology, artifacts and systems. By examining existing interactions, students will begin to develop their own interaction design sensibilities and vocabularies and apply these to their own project work, learning how to express their solutions by addressing contemporary interaction design issues. We will contextualize the practice of interaction design in relation to adjacent fields such as industrial and graphic design, film and other narrative-based forms of art, and architecture. Finally we will explore the practice of user experience and service design based on interaction design fundamentals.
