Description:
This course will introduce students to the theory and practice of various types of design research—from human-centered, qualitative methods to data-driven quantitative analysis—and their applications to the design process. Through lectures, readings, in-class exercises, and assignments students learn how to identify and articulate patterns in qualitative data and communicate them to a wide audience. This studio class is heavily project-based, providing students with valuable practice in design research methods such as: remote and in-person interviews, usability testing, surveys, secondary research, mental models, personas, and scenarios. Above all, students will use their hearts, minds, and imaginations to expand their understanding of individuals in a particular context.
