Description:

In these cross-disciplinary studios we explore the different materials, advanced topics, and domains that Interaction Design might involve. To the different disciplines we bring a method of application and the material of time design and the memory and interactivity of technology. Courses in this studio can be fulfilled by a variety of options including cross-listed courses with other departments, Engage studios, or an emerging topic defined by a faculty member, sponsored studio or other elective submitted by the student and approved by the program chair.Section Description:Students wishing to register for this course need to first obtain instructor approval by emailing the instructor (instructor emails are listed with a more detailed program description in portal: cca.edu/abroad). Once a student is approved, registration must be done in person at the Student Records Office on either campus. Open to undergraduate and graduate design students, this summer studio forms a team to research and design the transportation “experience” for a diverse set of stakeholders, while exploring the European design capital of Amsterdam. Investigating the fascinating history of this charming city, we delve into how residents have created a unique and symbiotic transportation system that meets the daily needs of almost a million people. We also.

Numerous studio visits and opportunities to interact with the local Dutch design community are scheduled, including Lily Kolle (Raft Collective, CCA alumna), Scott Summit (3D Systems, Scott Summit Design), Gray Holland (UX-Flo, Frog Design, Alchemy, former CCA faculty), William Myers (Guest curator at RISD and author of Bioart and Biodesign), and Mark Fonds (Infomatt).

Students have access to 200 museums in Amsterdam including the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Staedelijk Museum (modern design collection), The Amsterdam Museum, Teylors Museum (Haarlem), and many others. As yet unconfirmed are visits to Studio Drift, MX3D, Van Moof, Mokumono, and Raft Collective.
