Description:
Poetry is made. It is put together just as a building or a drawing is, put together with language and all of language's flexibility and strength. In this seminar we will read poetry from many periods and diverse cultures and closely examine the various uses of imagery, metaphor, sound, and form to see how these elements function and help create emotional resonance and meaning in poetry. Outcomes include an ability to analyze and interpret poetry, an ability to demonstrate that understanding in the written and oral assignments, and an ability to successfully participate in the seminar community.
