Description:

In this course we will explore the work of writers who radically challenged and transformed modern ideas about voice, music, image, and identity in poetry. We will read the work of poets such as Amiri Baraka, Wanda Coleman, Frank O'Hara, Allen Ginsberg, Susan Howe, Robert Creeley, Solmaz Sharif, Sonia Sanchez, Anne Waldman, and others who used art and language to embody identity and love, rebellion and the irrational, the body and society, and to challenge hegemonic ideas about art and authority.
