What happens when stories move off the page and into the body, the hand, the ear? In this course, students will explore how writing can function as a lived experience: visual, tactile, spatial, and time-based. Drawing from traditions in artist books and letterpress, we will investigate how to give language form and presence. This class invites writers and artists to play with how narrative takes shape across book forms and into the sensory field. We will move fluidly between tactile formats and experimental approaches. Students are encouraged to consider where their words want to live.We will explore visual poetics and text-based experimentation, artist books and book objects, embodied and spatial storytelling, playful and unconventional narrative structures, and techniques for translating writing into multisensory experiences. Open to writers, artists, and interdisciplinary creatives at any level who are curious about merging language with form. Whether you are a poet looking to expand beyond the page or an artist seeking new ways to tell stories, this course offers a space for bold exploration and cross-genre play.
