Activist writing exists in all genres of literature, from children’s picture books and comic books to poetry and spoken word to memoir and adult fiction. We will explore how these writings have significantly shaped public perception of contemporary activist issues such as climate change, Black Lives Matter, the metoo movement, immigration policy, gun violence, and LGBTQ rights.
