Description:
Writing is a crucial link between art and marketplace, making and selling, knowing and saying; from being a student to establishing a career. This course examines common vocabulary from art, architecture, design, and crafts, and where the language overlaps and differs. Become familiar with the literature of your discipline as you try your hand at various modes of creative and professional writing. Explore vocabulary of critique, details of description, language of symbols, and appropriate tone. Analyze selected readings to use as models for practicing traditional forms while developing your own voice, style, and stance. The course culminates with portfolio presentations where you will present your artwork at this stage of your career and speak about your aesthetic, influences, skills, and goals. Texts include a Course Reader PDF to download and print or read on screen, as well as researched readings and images found online, in library, on field trips, and during interviews.
