Description:
Writing is an essential skill for anyone working in the fields of art, architecture, and design. This course focuses on developing the different modes and forms of writing that are part of an artist's working life. We will examine texts from a range of artists, designers and critics. We will explore the vocabulary of critique, details of description, language of symbols, and appropriate tone, while developing a personal voice, style, and perspective. The aim is to strengthen the ability to build arguments about art and to incorporate these arguments into different kinds of writing, such as artist statements, interviews, and grant and job applications. Students will complete weekly assignments, three formal essays, and a final portfolio presentation that articulates personal aesthetic, influences, intent, skills, and goals.
