Description:

Prototimber will evaluate the use of timber in standard and non-standard construction methods, including issues relating to forestry, craft, and contemporary digital fabrication techniques. We will begin by understanding the historical evolution of timber as a building system, gain a basic understanding of the properties of timber as they vary between species, and ultimately look at prototypes for alternate approaches to building with timber. The elective aims to explore the nexus between environmental and technological potential of timber systems using a mixture of digital and practical skills.
