Description:
The Special Techniques courses help students to deepen their understanding of a specific subject matter or technique related to the field of Metalsmithing and Jewelry. Students make multiple studies and are encouraged to experiment with the technique at hand. The Jewelry/Metal Arts program offers four different Special Technique courses which rotate every other year and by demand. The courses are Casting, Color on Metal, Holloware, and Production.Section Description:This course introduces students to a wide range of approaches for applying color to jewelry and small sculpture. Non-ferrous metals will be the primary medium but many of the applications can be translated onto steel. Techniques covered will include traditional, experimental, and contemporary approaches with a strong emphasis on enameling techniques and patination. Students are encouraged to experiment and explore to discover new possibilities and outcomes, with a central focus on the transformative powers of color on form.
