In this course you will learn to make small metal objects and jewelry through numerous casting techniques. You will be guided through several methods to create and prepare your object for an invested flask. Then you will burn out the original leaving only an impression and by either pouring, spinning, or vacuuming molten metal intro the mold, you will transform that impression into a copy of the original.Original objects for the flasks can be carved or built from wax or can be done from a found object of organic or plastic material. In addition, you may be able to make molds for producing multiples. And the Jewelry & Metal Arts program encourages the use of a jewelry specific 3 d printer to print cad models that can be invested for casting.Students will learn about metal alloys, recycling metals, and environmentally conscious practices for metalsmithing.
