Description:
Bring your metalwork, jewelry, and sculpture to life with Color on Metal. In this course you will develop a variety of samples for you to incorporate into your metalwork to shift the content and feeling of your pieces to engage more fully with your artistic intentions. We will experiment with the patination of metal: using minerals and processes to create color on your metal. We will learn about and practice enameling: firing thin layers of glass on metal with a torch or kiln to create fields of color and/or imagery. We will investigate possibilities of drawing and painting materials on metal to create specific controlled results. We will work on a combination of experimentation, “productive failure”, and finished pieces. The Special Techniques courses help students to deepen their understanding of a specific subject matter or technique related to the field of Metalsmithing and Jewelry. Students make multiple studies and are encouraged to experiment with the technique at hand. The Jewelry/Metal Arts program offers four different Special Technique courses which rotate every other year and by demand. The courses are: Casting, Color on Metal, Holloware, and Production.
