Description:
This course focuses on advanced metalsmithing techniques and design ideation. Students will build sculptural forms with fabrication skills and infuse these forms with concepts that are developed using research and exploration. Through a series of demonstrations, students will learn ways to add volume, movement, and detail to the jewelry and small-scale sculptures they create. Students will also write artist statements, learn ways to manage their time, experiment with materials, and center their own visual language. Discussions about jewelry across cultures and time, as well as significant examples of visual art and jewelry, will complement skill-building and idea generation.
