Description:
This immersive studio course explores the essential technical and aesthetic foundations of painting, with a dynamic focus on the physical, compositional, and conceptual forces that drive pictorial invention and image-making. Students will push beyond basics to investigate how material, structure, and idea converge to create compelling visual experiences.Projects are enriched by critical readings and rigorous critiques designed to sharpen perception, strengthen visual language, and cultivate a distinctive, inventive approach to painting in preparation for advanced-level work. Engagement with both historical and contemporary art—through artist talks, slide presentations, and visits to museums and galleries—connects studio practice to the larger artistic conversation, positioning students as active participants in the evolving field of painting.
