Description:
This highly versatile print process has been a favorite of the contemporary artist for decades due to its flexibility and the ability to easily work with color as well as printing on a wide variety of surfaces. In this introductory class students will learn screen printing processes which can be applied without access to the technologies of the print studio. Non-photographic and hand drawn stencil techniques, contact or cut paper stencils and screening non-traditional materials as well as ad hoc strategies for setting up a home studio will be addressed. Critiques will be an ongoing part of the class as well as outside studio time which is required to develop skill in the process. Students will work on independent creative projects geared towards using the simplest of screen techniques with the goal of building the knowledge to pursue a do-it-yourself creative practice or cottage industry. No perquisites required. Additional materials fee will be charged.
