Description:
The Painterly Print introduces monotype as a printmaking process that expands contemporary painting through translation, transfer, and variation. Designed for painters, printmakers, and interdisciplinary artists, the course provides foundational instruction in plate preparation, inking methods, paper handling, registration, and press operation while producing unique, hand-pulled prints.Through additive and subtractive approaches, layering, trace techniques, and ghost printing, students explore how images evolve through repetition and material interaction. Emphasis is placed on technical skill-building alongside experimentation, encouraging the use of printmaking as a generative extension of painting that opens new approaches to composition, color, sequencing, and image development.Studio production is supported by regular critiques that foster dialogue around material decisions, visual language, and artistic intent. Positioned between painting and printmaking, the course frames monotype as both an accessible entry into print processes and a dynamic framework for testing, expanding, and advancing individual studio work.
