Description:
Earth’s biodiversity is in bad shape, but exactly how, and why? What can art students do about it? This class will focus on the Anthropocene, a new epoch that geologists date to the post-World War II boom in population, agriculture, industry, and transportation. We will examine colonial underpinnings of human practices that exploit rather than steward natural resources, and explore ways to help rectify the situation. The class will address change over time through history, story telling, and data analysis. Students will contribute to saving nature by making observations with the online tool iNaturalist.
