Description:
Sculpture workshops are critique-based studio courses that investigate interdisciplinary topics proposed by faculty based on their fieldwork, experience, and expertise. Emphasis is on developing each student's individualized research and expanding their studio practice to consider broader concerns, methods, and contexts.Expanded Casting course explores mold making and casting techniques to create conceptually rigorous artworks which are relevant both to the contemporary culture making and our lives in the personal, social and political contexts. The course starts with the foundational techniques such as the press mold and develops into more advanced techniques, such as multi-piece mold making and body casting. In addition to the traditional casting and mold making materials such as plaster, papier mâché and resins (both organic and synthetic), the course will introduce plant based or/and environmentally friendly art materials, such as seaweeds and other food ingredients, responding to the environmental changes we face also to the importance of relational community building.
