Description:
This class explores the intersection of "queerness” and "culture." Beginning with the premise that sexuality is always embedded in systems of power, we will engage visual arts, creative and critical writing, activism, and social practices that trouble the place of “queer” in ongoing systems of colonization, racial hierarchy, capitalism, and gendered inequality. We'll read theory, especially queer of color critique, transnational feminism, queer migration scholarship, and queer abolitionist scholarship, to support our exploration of gay, trans and queer activist movements, feminisms, AIDS activism, and public sexual cultures.
