Description:
Whether small or large, personal or public, shared or handheld, screens are one of the most pervasive technologies in our lives. From spaces of work to spaces of play, screens are sites for production, performance, collaboration, surveillance, and resistance. This course traces the evolution and cultural history of screens through its various incarnations in cinema and television, radar systems and surveillance, mobile, terminal, touch-screens, and gaming. Through this exploration, we will examine the development of the screen as a history at once material, computational, representational and architectural.
