Description:
SECTION Description: FILM IN FLUX is a critical study of film and digital/multimedia through the lens of our pandemic year. The future will forever be post/pandemic – but the conditions that led to this phenomenon were present for decades, and show no signs of dissipating. Economic/racial/gender inequity. The perils of social media and disinformation. The encroachment of technology on the natural world. How did the pandemic affect your personal practice – and how are you processing these experiences in your work? We’ll examine how writers and filmmakers confronted these ideas. We will explore how the post/pandemic is shaping us today. And together we will chart a path forward. Our seminar focuses on the movies, books, and television series which explore these ideas, and the evolution of new contemporary forms and genres. The course is comprised of informal lectures, screenings, writing assignments, and a writing workshop. Our expressed goal is to address these topics via critical essays, short writing exercises, and a capstone creative project.
