Description:

MAKE IT AND GET IT OUT THERE: A PRACTICUM IN PERSONAL PUBLICATION Do-it-yourself print publishing has recently enjoyed a renaissance in popularity among young writers and artists. In this course, students will learn how to make and promote their own meaningful personal publications. We will treat every phase of publication -- concept, writing, design, printing, and promotion (via launch events and so forth) -- as vital and integral acts of authorship. We will learn to master accessible tools including photocopiers, CCA's brand new Risograph printer, and simple binding techniques. We will also explore the zines, artist books, and practices of those who are making (and have historically made) publications in this way. Students will work with CCA and the instructor to produce a series of launch events at CCA and around the Bay Area to celebrate and promote our published works. All Grad Writing students are welcome to enroll. No prior experience required. Everyone is welcome to enroll. No prior experience required.
