Description:

This Writing & Literature class will explore the many ways in which the written word is being combined with images to create work that is more powerful than either art form alone. We will examine the marriage of text and imagery in a variety of forms, including comics, non-fiction, fiction, visual art, and productions for the stage. Our main focus will be to investigate how writers use visuals not just to illustrate their text, but to add new dimensions to it. However, we will also explore how visual artists and others use text in their work for powerful results. Writing assignments including short responses to assigned reading, a personal essay, and a final research project will allow students to practice their writing skills and to explore creative ways of combining text and imagery in their own work.Writing 2 continues the work begun in Writing 1 on strengthening students' ability to write, read and discuss at the college level, with emphasis on literary and visual analysis, and research and argumentation skills. The course will revolve around a specific theme selected by the instructor.
