Description:
This literature course will investigate the origins, evolution and contesting definitions and parameters of the genre of young adult literature. We will examine issues relevant to the writing, reading and marketing of young adult literature, including censorship, class, ethnicity, gender and sexuality. We will explore the impact of young adult literature on local community, identity development and lifelong literacy habits through a community partnership with Chapter 510 in Oakland. The class will culminate with a public presentation at the Chapter 510 site.
