Event description
Our personal, social, and political identities are a collection of our backgrounds, cultural positionalities, and perspectives. We carry these various perspectives and projections with us. BFA Animation and MFA Design students are creating pieces in response to the work of Rashaad Newsome and its theoretical grounding in bell hook’s cultural theory. Using collage as a method and concept, they explore personal and collective identity.
Participating BFA Animation students include Ash Yang, Hannah Hagen, Immanuel White, Iris Chang, Jasmin Regato, Jo Pinsky, Kaeli Mcleod, Kyra Robinson, Maribella Langley, Milla Duguay, Morty Tillman, Natalie Krebs, Primrose Lu, Rachel Moncayo, Rain Sassorossi, Rodolfo Lopez-Gutierrez, Sincere Fullerton, Tyler Houck, Yufan Jin, and Yusi Yao. MFA Design students include Aashna Keswani, Biray Ozdol, Elisabeth Cobb, Ian Storm Taylor, Luyao Xu, Ramyatara Mullapudi, Rowan Limbach, and Sahana Rao.
This exhibition is presented in conjunction with Engineers, a talk by Rashaad Newsome taking place in the Nave Presentation Space on Wednesday, October 18, from 7 to 8:30pm. It is supported by the Deborah and Kenneth Novack Creative Citizens Series, a year-long conversation series that spans the disciplines of art, design, architecture, and writing.
