Event description
Please join the Oakland Campus Legacy Committee for a ceremony honoring CCA’s Oakland campus. We come together to show gratitude to the beloved garden campus we have called home for one hundred years and celebrate the roots we carry forward for centuries to come.
4:00 pm — Ceremony on Macky Lawn
5:00 pm — Reception in the Oliver Art Center
We’d also like to extend a special invitation to join alum Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo and the OCLC co-chairs on a “Viewfinder” walk of the Oakland campus prior to the Ceremony. The walk will depart promptly at 2:30pm from Macky Lawn. Update: the Viewfinder walk is now at capacity, and we are not able to take new RSVPs for this portion of the event. If you have yet to register for the event, please join us at 4pm for the Ceremony and reception.
Please RSVP for this free event on Eventbrite.
To call the community together during significant campus events and to mark the beginning and end of the academic year, CCA’s founder Frederick Meyer would ring our historic bell. To honor this moment of transition and to harken new beginnings, we will come together on September 24 to ceremoniously ring the bell for the last time on the Oakland campus. Remarks and readings will commemorate the campus and its impact in shaping the people, pedagogy, values, and practices of our creative community in the past, present, and future. Tea brewed from edible plants growing in the gardens will be served in hand-thrown ceramic cups so that participants may embody the legacy of our beloved campus.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to a reception accompanied by an exhibition, curated by Annemarie Haar, of the Oakland campus Rephotographic Survey Project by Chris Johnson and the culmination of the Legacy Print Project. Entitled A Garden Campus, the project celebrates CCA’s one hundred year history in Oakland with a limited edition of ten prints. Designed by faculty artists and hand screen printed by alum and faculty emeritus Thomas Wojak, each one represents a decade of CCA on the Oakland campus. The exhibition will feature the final four prints in the series alongside all previously released prints and the CCA/C Archives research that informed the project.
The Legacy Print Project is curated by Annemarie Haar, Lisa Jonas, and Deborah Valoma. Artists include Kim Anno, Curtis Arima, Bob Aufuldish, Irene Cheng & Janette Kim, Angela Hennessy, Kari Marboe, Eduardo Pineda, Victoria Wagner, Michael Wertz, and Thomas Wojak. All prints and limited boxed sets will be available by donation at the reception, and all proceeds will go toward funding ongoing Oakland Campus Legacy programming and projects.
For everyone’s safety and comfort, kindly note that all event attendees will be required to present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 upon arrival and to wear masks at all times unless eating or drinking.
