Fall 2024 Atelier
The CCA Atelier program in San Francisco offers weekend workshops during fall and spring semesters. These art and design focused studios include a range of creative disciplines that allow students to learn new techniques directly from our college instructors, while exploring new materials and making portfolio-ready pieces.

California College of the Arts offers this course as a special opportunity for high school students to develop their drawing skills and experience drawing from a live nude model. Please note that a model is not employed for the first class meeting. Students spend the first class focusing on a variety of drawing issues in anticipation of drawing from the model. All seven subsequent sessions involve drawing from a nude model.
Prerequisite: Must be currently enrolled in high school ages 14-18 to attend.
Bring to class: 18 x 24 pad of newsprint, 18" x 24" pad of 80 lb weight drawing paper, 11x14” pad toned grey or tan paper, vine charcoal (medium or soft), General's soft charcoal pencils (at least 4), kneaded eraser, masking (artist's) tape, blending stumps (various sizes), white conte crayon (pack of 2, B or 2B) or white charcoal pencils, soft or medium graphite stick, compressed charcoal, sandpaper sharpener. Optional: artist’s chamois. More materials discussed in first class, and later in the course students are welcome to use alternative materials of choice.

- CCA Hubbell Drawing Studio, 111 Hubbell St
High School Artists: Take your work to the next level! This 8 week intensive workshop will sharpen your conceptual skills while you challenge yourself with drawing, painting and illustration assignments to create portfolio-worthy work. We’ll explore a variety of different mediums and techniques, from traditional to digital (including Procreate and Photoshop). Our 8 weeks will culminate in a unique assignment which will express your personal vision. This course is ideal for students looking to prepare for college applications or National Portfolio Day (hosted by CCA on November 17).
Prerequisite: Must be currently enrolled in high school ages 14-18 to attend.
Bring to first class: a small sketchbook (students' choice), a set of drawing pencils (from HB-4B), metal sharpener, white Staedtler eraser and a durable portfolio case for storing completed work. Instructor recommends this 19” x 25” one.
