Excellence in Student Leadership Awards
The Excellence in Student Leadership Awards recognize outstanding student leaders who significantly enhance learning inside and outside the classroom.
Honored student leaders demonstrate:
- a commitment to the values of justice and caring
- act from a strong self-concept
- think critically and creatively
- take risks willingly
- communicate effectively
- exercise power appropriately
- articulate a positive sense of direction
- evoke hope
CCA students, faculty, and staff play a vital role in acknowledging these student leaders by submitting nominations.

Award Categories
Community Engagement Award
- Nominees have maintained academic excellence while committing their time, energy, and resources to making a difference within the CCA community and/or local communities.
- Demonstrating a passion to serve others is an important quality this nominee should possess.
Mentorship Award
- This award recognizes student leaders based on their commitment and devotion to mentoring and caring for fellow students.
- Nominees take time to assist their peers while maintaining academic excellence.
Diversity & Inclusion Award
- Nominees have demonstrated academic achievement, outstanding service to the CCA community, and service to racially or culturally, or both, diverse communities.
- Award recipients have made significant accomplishments in and efforts toward promoting the principles of academic excellence and cultural pluralism and diversity on campus.
Sustainability Leadership Award
- This award is for the student who has demonstrated both academic excellence and a commitment to being a sustainability leader at the college.
- Students may show leadership in terms of environmental, cultural, social, financial, and personal sustainability practices and principles.
- Students role model eco-conscious decisions in their everyday happenings and educate others.
Rising Star Award
- After reviewing all nominations, the selection committee determines those that have demonstrated leadership potential in community, studio and craft during their time at CCA.
- Students shows growth in leadership, mentorship and community service.
Creative Accord Award
- After reviewing all nominations, the selection committee determines those that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in community, studio and craft during their time at CCA.
- Students embody the Creative Accord principles and serve as role models of a creative citizen.
Nomination Process
Criteria for Nomination
- must be in good academic and good disciplinary standing
- demonstrates leadership: (1) participates in community building (2) mentors fellow students (3) creates opportunities for engagement and involvement
- contributes to the overall excellence of CCA
- articulates a positive sense of direction
- thinks critically and creatively
Selection
Based on submitted nominations, all nominees are evaluated on the quality of their leadership experience and the extent to which they have made meaningful contributions to CCA.
When nominating a student, be sure to include a thorough description of their contributions to the college, including all achievements as a student leader.
The more information provided about the nominee the better, as this information is key in considering them for this honor.
