MARCH-6130: Design Media 2
Course Description
Design Media 2 is required of first-year M.Arch students and is coordinated with Architecture Studio 2. The course explores how architectural designers work between the digital and material worlds, presenting computational methods of design, fabrication, and representation as integral aspects of the architectural design process. The course offers a general practical, historical, and theoretical introduction to the use of computation in architecture, and teaches students how computational tools can be integrated into a design workflow. Students are introduced to 2D and 3D techniques of parametric design (including Grasshopper), as well as a wide array of digital fabrication technologies, including 3D printing, laser-cutting, CNC milling, and advanced tectonic assembly. The technical aspects of the course are accompanied by pertinent histories and theories of digital production in architecture.
