Printmaking by nature is a replicative media. Images are created using a matrix and printed as a unique work, multiples, or a variation through a range of printmaking processes. Technologies introduced in this class will include relief (woodcut and linocut), monotype, collograph and intaglio (copper etching). A rich array of pictorial results can be produced by mark-making, carving, scratching, rubbing, drawing, and painting on metal, stone or wood. Over the course of the class you will become familiar with a variety of tools and processes to successfully create a number of printed editions in each of the techniques, and familiarity with the equipment and safety processes of the print studio that will allow you to work successfully in any shared studio. Sessions include demonstrations, critiques, and individual work time. Open to beginning and advanced students from any major.
