Etching or intaglio printmaking inlclues different techniques for imaging making created by drawing and scratching lines on metal plates. This historic form of printmedia has been used for centuries by artitsts to create percise, lyrical and expressive graphic images. A wide range of line quality in addition to a rich range of values can be achived through etching. This course will cover demonstrations and hands-on work in electro-etching techniques which is a sustainable and non-toxic etching process. Various methods of putting the image on the plate (hard ground, electro-graphite ground, slelf-aquatint, drypoint, mezzotint etc.) will be covered, as well as the procedures for proofing, correcting, and printing editions. Students are encouraged to explore creative methods that meet individual aesthetic and conceptual needs. They will also be expected to develop an increasingly complex body of work through their personal vocabulary with the media. Open to students from any major who have taken Etching 1 and who want dedicated time and support to focus on their practice at an advanced level.
