PRINT-3200: Advanced Lithography
Course Description
Lithography is a special printmaking technique where images are drawn or painted onto the surface of stone, and then etched and printed to create prints with a wide range of drawn/painted marks. This course covers demonstrations and hands-on work in the techniques of lithographic printing from limestone and aluminum plates, primarily in black-and-white, although color possibilities will also be included. Many drawing/painting techniques and materials will be explored and careful attention will be given to the process of etching, proofing, correcting, and printing editions. Students are encouraged to explore creative methods that meet individual aesthetic and conceptual needs. They will also be expected to develop an increasingly complex body of work through their personal vocabulary with the media. Open to students from any major who have taken Lithography 1 and who want dedicated time and support to focus on their practice at an advanced level.
