Description:
Design Media 1 is required and runs concomitantly with Architecture Studio 1. It introduces the student to the fundamental technical aspects of communication, basic theories of information technology, a necessary respect for accuracy and the cultural need for reproduction. The course emphasizes the idea that the act of representation is crucial and reciprocal to the design process and is in fact fundamental in constructing the final endeavor and that by understanding how one's work will be advertised in large part will be how it exists. Specific value is placed in establishing critically informed positions and technically accurate defenses for work produced in studio. This is done not only through developing fluency in visual form but also by developing fluency in verbal and textual work eventually developing an etymological understanding of both form and its description.
