Description:
How do we make our ideas into things? In this class, students will examine ways to explore clay as a medium for describing what we see and experience-through close observation, both of what we encounter in the world and what's inside our heads. Weekly slide talks on contemporary craft artists and histories and demonstrations of methods and techniques will be paired with class projects and individual explorations. Some brief but thoughtful readings, student presentations and a field trip to the Oakland Museum will help students develop a deeper understanding of what they want to make next, and why.
