Description:

This intermediate level workshop focuses on developing higher proficiency in technical areas of ceramics and continuing critical analysis. The studio work is paired with appropriate lectures, demonstrations and field trips.Section Description:Ceramic is one of the most versatile materials in our world. It is one of the few materials that will forever be shaped by our lifestyle and perspectives. As artists and designers, we learn so much about how to create objects that will improve and enrich our lives, but seldom have the opportunity to put this skills and knowledge into action. CERAMICS for ID Design is an exercise in the integrity of material, process and the production of ceramic objects with lasting value and social impact. This course will give you a better understanding of how ceramic material, process, and production relate to the practice of industrial design. We investigate traditional industrial design process from initial research, drawings, rough model making, CAD, and 3D printing. We focus on learning and creating molds for slip casting ceramics. In this course, you gain a deep understanding of digital technologies and mold making techniques as a vehicle for the generation of prototypes and small batch production. After developing technical skills students focus on projects that help to express their personal voice as well as gain the skills to research and write a short proposal with social impact. Additional fees for materials have not been included.
