Description:
What can we learn from acknowledging the history of non-dominant cultures? How do we build an alternative vision of the future based on our less-than-ideal present? Why cultivate empathy, collaboration, and translation within our creative process? This course examines colonialism and its consequences through the lens of extremity and spatial justice. We will call upon a mixture of knowledges, cultures, subjectivities, and practices to transcend Western ways of living, thinking, and healing. At the heart of our multidisciplinary exploration of decolonization and anti-colonialism will be indigenous, feminist, queer, and anti-racist works from various scholars, activists, artists, and designers situated in the Global South. This framework will encourage you to engage your creative discipline in imagining an alternative form of global modernity based on models of liberation and joy.
